LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION (LOR)

What is a Letter of Recommendation (LOR)?
  • A LOR is a letter written for you from another person who can speak on behalf of your accomplishments, character, and personality
  • In my opinion, this is one of the most important components of your application

Who should I get a LOR from?
  • Most programs require you to get LORs from certain people (your Dean, Principal, etc.) and you can get additional LORs from other people that have seen you in work or personal environments
  • I believe the selection of these additional LORs is a critical component of your application
  • From my experience, LORs obtained in the US carry much more weight than those from other countries, ESPECIALLY if the LOR comes from someone known to the admissions committee
  • Do not underestimate the power of this letter! Make yourself known and build strong and genuine personal connections with staff!
