Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) Evaluation

What is an ECE Evaluation?
  • In order to apply for a DDS/DMD program, you will need to submit your transcripts from your home country for evaluation to a company called Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).
  • To obtain an evaluation go to : https://www.ece.org/,
  •  You will have to obtain a course-by-course evaluation
  • The evaluation process is used to give credit for the courses you took abroad and assign you a grade point average (GPA)

What is a grade point average (GPA)?
  • A GPA is a numerical score of 0.0-4.0 that corresponds to the grades/marks you have earned in school
  • This is the grading format used by schools in the US for both domestic and international students

How is a GPA Calculated?
  • The ECE Evaluation will convert the grades/marks you have earned in your international dental program to a GPA according to a formula they use depending on which country your transcript is from
  • A 4.0 is a perfect GPA (this should be your aim)
  • The conversion formula differs according to which country you are coming from
  • The formula for Indian grade conversion, for example, is as follows:
             >65% marks-  (4.0 GPA)
             55%-65% marks-  (3.0 GPA)
             Etc.
